THE MILTON TOWN WAR MEMORIAL,
FORMERLY BASED AT HOLY TRINITY CHURCH MILTON

DGFHGF

Milton was quicker off the mark than Sittingbourne. A memorial shrine had been created in 1917 and when the war finished had its war memorial openned in November 1919. The memorial was damaged in the storm of 89, it also suffered like the original Sittingbourne memorial from vandalism. The brass plaques were taken from the memorial and mounted next to the Sittingbourne memorial in the towns combined memorials. Now the site of the old memorial is a sad sight with the square stone dedication stone which sat above the ones containing the names lying on its side. There is a move to recreate the Milton memorial. My Personal view is that things are safe where they are, a new memorial at this old site will become wrecked in no time ( judging by the lack respect shown to the churchyard and things around it). Perhaps any memorial should inside the church, that is a matter for those living there. i was fortuante, my Milton relatives all came home.
